October 3, 2013 MobiusThis fall and winter, there are several exciting opportunities for Vermont mentoring professionals to connect with their colleagues across the state, region, and country. The following events are great professional development and networking opportunities and we hope that many of you are able to participate. We also encourage you to check our Mentoring Events Calendar for other events and opportunities throughout the year, and to let us know if there are similar opportunities that you know of in your area that you would like to share on our website.
- Northeast Regional Mentoring Conference
- Description: The Northeast Regional Youth Mentoring Conference will bring over 250 practitioners, researchers and other stakeholders in the mentoring field together. This is the 3rd annual regional conference with the theme “Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Reality” conveying a greater focus on the future outcomes and impact that bringing a caring adult into the life of a young person today can make.

- College Positive Volunteerism Forum
- Description: A workshop with Dr. Paul Hernandez for anyone that works with young people in Vermont. College Positive Volunteerism is an effort to increase college aspirations, enrollment and success by training volunteers who work with young people on how to discuss and encourage college options (including a variety of post-secondary choices). Mobius is partnering with VT Campus Compact and will work to gear this training towards mentoring coordinators. Preference with registration will go to mentoring program staff over individual mentors to ensure we are reaching the most people with the training.

- 2014 National Mentoring Summit

- Description: The National Mentoring Summit is the signature event for the national mentoring movement that will bring together 700 participants including, practitioners, researchers, corporate partners, government and civic leaders, national youth-serving organizations and the network of Mentoring Partnerships in a forum to explore and advance mentoring’s positive impact on individuals and communities. The 2014 National Mentoring Summit theme is Mentoring Works and will focus on how evidence-based quality mentoring relationships help young people succeed at home, in school and at work. Workshops and informal sessions will demonstrate the many ways in which mentoring works to support positive youth outcomes by showcasing innovative program models, emerging research, and the nuances across diverse youth populations.
