Excitement Building for National Mentoring Month in Vermont!
December 13, 2013 National Mentoring MonthNational Mentoring Month is just around the corner, and news of exciting events from around the state continues to come in. We are eager to learn more about the many activities and events that mentoring programs are organizing in their communities, and we encourage you all to share them with us.
From January 6th through January 10th, Green Peppers in Middlebury will be hosting a five-day benefit to support the Everybody Wins! Vermont literacy-based mentoring programs in Addison County. Everybody Wins! currently runs programming at Mary Hogan Elementary, Shoreham Elementary, Bridport Central School and Salisbury Elementary, and will be starting off a new program at Vergennes Union Elementary in January. Green Peppers will donate $4 from every large pizza they sell (eat-in or take-out). There will also be a mentoring display and the opportunity for potential volunteers to sign up as reading mentors.
On Saturday, January 11th, SB Mentoring will be hosting its First Annual Casual Gala at F.H. Tuttle Middle School in South Burlington. The event will feature dinner, dessert, a silent auction, and the opportunity for mentors and mentoring supporters to gather for an evening of celebration. The speaker of honor will be Mark Redmond, Executive Director of Spectrum Youth and Family Services and a mentor through the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by contacting SB Mentoring coordinator Susie Merrick: 802-238-1054 or [email protected].
On Tuesday, January 14th, Mobius and American Flatbread (Burlington Hearth) will be hosting a benefit bake to raise money for the Chittenden County Mentoring Network (CCMN). Flatbread will be donating $3.50 for each large flatbread sold, and $1.75 for each small flatbread sold throughout the night. We invite you to join us at the event, and to bring your friends and family who might be interested in mentoring too. Mentoring representatives from Chittenden County programs will be available to talk to patrons about local mentoring opportunities.
These three events are just a small sampling of the many National Mentoring Month activities happening around the state. If you are a mentoring program interested in sharing the news about your events or learning about other ways that you can partner with Mobius to help promote the cause locally and statewide, we encourage you to join our National Mentoring Month webinar on Tuesday, December 17 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. RSVP here, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions! Hope to connect with many of you next week.
