Heidi Swevens is an artist and advocate who earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Vermont in 2001. Throughout her career she has worked with organizations whose missions relate to arts, education, access and community. She has lived with legal blindness since 1996 and has worked with Inclusive Arts Vermont for the past seven years, now serving as Director of Community Partnerships. Heidi is passionate about understanding disability as a doorway into exploring broader concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion. She collaborates with community partners to strategize areas for professional development that address systems level change. She also works directly with teaching artists and others who create curricula and evaluate impact with a focus on social and emotional learning highlighted in the relational elements embedded in the art making process. She blends structure with storytelling and invites lived experience and strengths to frame her collaborative style of engagement.
